Hi Kev,

I thought  this may be of interest to some of the 7RAR members .

I found a company in Melbourne that makes RAR rings of perfect quality. They had one for 6RAR and I asked the guy to design one for 7RAR, see photos attached at the bottom of this e-mail. I have had one for a year or so. The size is not over the top and it can be worn permanently if you wish.

The company is Achievement Awards Australia

Owner : Hank Thierry

PO Box 184 Mansfield Vic.

Mobile 0427387463

He does them in Gold, White Gold or Silver. prices vary .........made to fit your finger.

On the inside they will also engrave , for instance Vietnam 70 2793537, referring to conflict , year and service number.

My understanding is that Hank now has the mould for 7 RAR and they are made in the USA due to the intricate nature of the crossed rifles.

The photos were taken during the making stage and have a few blemishes however of course the finished ring is pristine. I believe they can be made with the black background or without it.

Below is an extract from the webiste :

Found this interesting link while surfing.  It is the story of a guy who served with the 2nd/7th in PNG.  He had a leg amputated as a result of a single GSW and in the recovery process, at one stage, he had received 60 pints of blood.  This caused some interest during the war and he ended up as a feature in the Woman's Weekly of the time and was interviewed several times on Sydney radio.

It's a good read put together by his son based on interviews with his father.

More..
