Four Australian soldiers were wounded on Saturday when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.

The Department of Defence said the soldiers, part of the 1st Mentoring Task Force, were travelling in an Afghan National Army patrol in the Chora Valley region of Oruzgan province when the device exploded.

Commodore Roger Boyce said two soldiers suffered minor wounds and another two received superficial wounds.

The soldiers were treated at the scene and evacuated by helicopter to an International Security Assistance Force hospital at Tarin Kowt.
